The word is used loosely. Here is what it actually buys you.
Google Cloud, Not A Reseller
The machines are Google Compute Engine instances in the Singapore region, run by us. We are not reselling somebody else’s panel on top of somebody else’s server.
A Container Per Website
Your site is not a folder on a shared machine. It is its own container running as its own Unix user with its own database, which is what makes one busy neighbour somebody else’s problem.
Room To Move
Need more? Change plan and the allowance changes. Need a lot more? A website can be moved to a quieter machine without being rebuilt, because nothing about it is tied to one server.
What Your Request Passes Through
Cloudflare at the edge, nginx and its page cache, PHP-FPM inside your container, Redis for the object cache and a private MySQL instance behind it. All of it inside one Singapore region.
Backups go to Google Cloud Storage, which is separate from the machines, so losing a machine does not lose the copies.

It Does Not Mean Unlimited
Cloud is often sold as if capacity were infinite and free. It is neither. Every plan has a storage and bandwidth allowance, written down, and we would rather you saw the number than discovered it.
It Does Not Auto-Scale Your Bill
Your site does not quietly spin up extra machines and hand you a surprise invoice. If you outgrow a plan, we tell you and you decide.
It Is One Region, On Purpose
Singapore only. A site served from one close region beats a site spread thinly across many far ones, provided your audience is here. If it is not, say so and we will tell you honestly.
Fair Questions About Cloud
Is there a separate cloud plan to buy?
No, and that is deliberate. Build, Grow and Scale all run on the same Google Cloud infrastructure in Singapore. There is no slower shared tier underneath to upsell you away from.
What is the difference between this and a VPS on Google Cloud?
A VPS hands you an empty machine and the job of running it: updates, nginx, PHP, MySQL, backups, certificates and security. Here that work is already done and kept done. If you want the machine itself, take a VPS. If you want the website to work, take this.
How does it scale when traffic spikes?
Cached pages are served from Cloudflare at the edge, so a spike on a mostly cacheable site barely touches the server. For traffic that cannot be cached, the limit is your plan and the machine your site sits on, and we move busy sites to quieter machines as the fleet grows.
What happens if a machine fails?
Every site is backed up nightly to Google Cloud Storage, separately from the machines themselves, so a site can be rebuilt on another node from those backups. We do not currently run hot standby machines, and we would rather say that than imply instant failover.
Can I pick the region?
Not today. Singapore is the only region we run, which is why the pages here are honest about being the wrong choice for an audience in Europe or the Americas.
